(Langley) — американский физик и астроном. С 1865 года был ассистентом в обсерватории при колледже Гарварда, с 1867 г. сделался профессором астрономии и физики и директором обсерватории Аллегани (Пенсильвания). С 1887 г. Л. назначен директором Смитсонианского института в Вашингтоне. Главнейшие научные работы Л. посвящены астрофизическим исследованиям (работы о температуре лунной поверхности, о лучистой энергии солнца и луны и др.).
